Stars were aligned for a perfect day in every way!
Posted by Shanti on Thu, 11/01/2012 - 12:31Breathtaking, graceful, glowing, happiness, stunning, and in love, these are just a few of the adjectives that I can think of to describe a pretty perfect day that celebrated the love of two very awesome people along with their loved ones from both close and afar.
The wedding ceremony was in a somewhat secluded area off the 17 mile drive in Carmel, CA called Church in the Forest. I'm not always a fan of the look of churches , photography speaking, but this church was so beautiful in a very simple and Carmel sort of way. With big windows that open you up to forests all around you, it allows, even a large wedding, to have the intimacy of all those you love around you and the magic of Carmel's nature to seep in to the calmness and the serenity of the moment.
If that wasn't beautiful enough, the reception was held at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch in Carmel. Which is this historic ranch resort that sits on 22 acres with views all around you. Again, they managed to find an intimate location to have a wonderful sit down dinner with 150 of their closest friends and family. After dinner, some toasts, and the first dance, the guests were invited into the "old bard" to boogie down to an amazing live band called Steve Ezzo and the Monterey Bay All-Stars. Amazing! They had everyone out there dancing to all sorts of fun music both current and old school. It was a blast to capture.
And what made this day even more perfect... having my two favorite people help to capture this day. Simone Anne Photography and my very own associate Shannon Henretty were there to capture all the details of the day! Two very creative and detail oriented individuals. Together, we are so inspring and we really just feed off each others energy... its a blast.
Ok, enough about the details... I can't end this blog with out talking about Christa and Aaron and what they mean to me... I have known Christa for years, having the pleasure to work with her mom in my last lifetime, and watching her grow in to this beautiful young woman that is glowing from the inside out. When Catherine, her mother, asked me to capture this day a year ago I was beaming... I loved this family, but not having been in their lives for the last 10 years, I never had expected that I was on their radar of options. I knew this was a wedding that would bring everything I do full circle and it did just that. I left capturing this wedding thankful for what I do, and thankful for bringing wonderful people back into my life and allowing me to witness, capture, and be apart of such important moments in their lives. And then their is Aaron, a person who from the minute I met him had left me feeling as if we too were old friends. He has so much warmth and insight on life and couldn't be a more perfect match for Christa.
Thank you Miles family for allowing me to be so apart of this day. It was an honor!

Coastal Canyon
Posted by Shanti on Fri, 10/19/2012 - 11:11Up on the hill tops of Half Moon Bay sits a breathtaking venue that over looks our coastal beauty. Coastal Canyon is a fairly new venue and I can wish it only the best as it truly is a hidden gem.
I had the pleasure of photographing Travis and Jen's wedding in September at this venue and I was thouroughly impressed. Candice Quinlan, owner of the venue, has done an amazing job at transforming what was just country side into a place that has unique character and charm.
For Travis, a country boy and Half Moon Bay native, it was the perfect backdrop to marry his beautiful bride. It offered a little of everything, from his country roots to the views of where he grew up. Jennifer added the perfect touches from her life as well with homemade granola that came straight from her families cookie company in Sacramento. I wish them nothing but happiness in their future!

Holy cow!
Posted by Shanti on Fri, 08/31/2012 - 21:52I don't even know where to start! This wedding was so fun and unique on so many levels. Lori and Matt got married in Watsonville at the Pemo Oso Ling Tibetan Retreat, its this beautiful venue located in the thick of the redwoods. I have now been at this venue several times, and it just doesn't get old!
What I love about Lori is that although her life has lead her to the mainlands, her heart is still attached to Hawaii... and for those of you who know me, know I share a similar story. Lori was born and raised on Oahu and it wasn't until she moved over here to attend Stanford University did her life take her on a journey that would lead her to the love of her life, Matt.
Lori and Matt brought a little bit of Hawaii to their wedding through all their beautiful flowers: plumeria bouquets, orchid boutineers, and tuba rose lei's. She had me there:) Nothing like the smell of a tuba rose to bring back all your childhood memories of the islands. After their beautiful ceremony the bride and groom entered into their reception with grand force, from one side of the party comes running out tuba players, drummers, saxophones, etc. and on the other side the bride and groom merge themselves into the festivities of the STANFORD MARCHING BAND... or at least those that were in the band during their college years. They played three songs where Lori and Matt shared in the instrument playing to band leader... My mouth was dropped wide open and my finger was stuck on the trigger.... it was AMAZING!
It was a wonderful reception that included heartfelt toasts, a live band, and two very personalized performances by Matt and Lori. The first was a jam session with Matt and his old band mates and the second was a hula dance performed by Lori and then later joined in by Matt. Beautiful! All in all, I have to say this one goes down in the books as another favorite of mine! Loved it!

Perfection!
Posted by Shanti on Wed, 08/01/2012 - 21:52All I can say is wow! Such a beautiful bride, a handsome groom, curteous warm and loving family and friends, and a beautiful venue... It was truly perfect! Becky and Evan got married on the lawn of the Mavericks Lodge Event Center followed by a magical wedding reception in the tent of the Oceano Hotel and Spa. I can't decide what was my favorite part about this wedding: It could have been the dress, or maybe the fact that every one was where they needed to be when they needed to be, but I think the best part of the day for me was Becky's laughter and Evan's genuine love for his beautiful bride! Congratulations you two!

Blessed!
Posted by Shanti on Thu, 07/19/2012 - 21:54Nights like this truly make believe that I am meant to do what I do. I mean who gets such a breathtaking night on the coast in July, combined with two beautiful people, and all the love and emotion all wrapped up into an amazing moment. But really, what puts it into perspective for me is that they chose me again to capture this special moment for them. A second in their lives of special moments, as I also had the extreme honor of capturing their wedding day last May.
Although Lauren was extremely sick on her wedding day, the love between these two was so apparent that I could only feel blessed to be the one to capture it. And again, I was honored to have that feeling all over again. Nothing brings more happiness to my heart than to know that there is going to be another soul brought into this world surrounded by love and positive energy.

Fog is my friend
Posted by Shanti on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 12:01Sometimes you just can't pick your weather! For those of you that know my style, you know that I am a bit of a weather snob. I do like a perfect day:) However, sometimes even I have to go with the flow, as this couple whom are getting married in August, flew in for the weekend from New York... Rain or Shine it was going to happen. Luckily no rain, but we did get our very thick fog.
Now just because I like a perfect day doesn't mean that I don't equally love the fog when captured right. Fog allows the mood to set into a very subductive serene feeling. It can leave you feeling at peace. The colors, though not popping with the sunset glow, have a very pleasing monochromatic look that compliments the mood that has been established.
Now, pair that up, with a couple that really enjoy being together and well... we got success. In hind sight, I love that we had fog on this night. Thanks Lori and Matt for enduring the cold.

Living in the moment
Posted by Shanti on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 13:15
What makes a wedding fun to capture for me? Well this wedding pretty much sums it up. Culture, elegance, love, and carefree.... yet chaos free!
I first began talking to the bride Agustina's mom about two months ago... amazing lady. Within two months, Mercedes pulled off an elegant event for her daughter that would have take most people a year to create! Good job Mercedes! Agustina, from Argentina, is 4 months pregnant and is just glowing... was it the baby or was it the love or maybe a little bit of both! Whatever it was, Chris and Agustina were just beaming all night with the love that pored in from literally all over the world, as most of their guests, on very short notice, flew in from as far away as Argentina and Amsterdam. Amazing!
The wedding was at one of my favorite churches, St. Mary's Chapelin Moraga. It’s a beautiful campus and just a breathtaking church... but the reception, a place I had never photographed at, is simply put, nothing but elegance. Diablo Country Club is a throw back in time to what a country club used to be. Its old school charm and its elite sophistication made you feel as if you just stepped into a place for the rich and famous.
Had the mother of the bride left it at that I would have been sold... but she continued the fun and festivities with an amazing live band, a photo booth, cigars for the guys (although there were a few girls out there), and a rose petal send off at the end of the night.
I left there with a big smile on my face at the end of the night, sure I worked my tale off, but it was just so nice to see all the love that pored into this couple and a wedding and party that really came together without a glitch in sight. And ok even though I worked.. I had so much fun too!

Meant to be
Posted by Shanti on Mon, 04/30/2012 - 12:42Although Agustina and Chris only hired me as their wedding photographer a few short months ago, with a wedding planned in May, I have loved every minute of getting to know these two and their love for each other. The wedding itself will be at St. Mary's Chapel in Moraga followed by an elegant reception at the Diablo Country Club.
Of course with a short contract, and still the desire for engagement photo's we had to act quickly... despite weather concerns. The day for this photoshoot is a day I would have normally rescheduled as the weather was crisp with a little wind... but I am so glad we pushed through, as the light was still magical and the moment still real. The results of some of my favorites are below...

I want to get married again!
Posted by Shanti on Tue, 04/24/2012 - 11:36Yes, I said it! But not to anyone new... I think my husband and I could rock the Long Branch Saloon. Talk about a venue that covers it all. Kevin Palmer, the owner of Long Branch Saloon, has taken his passion to a new level. It is a picturesque, straight out of the movies, old western town feel nestled into the country side of the Half Moon Bay Coastline. He has done such a tasteful and artistic job of really bringing you back to the old days in a sweet and vintage sort of way. What I loved about the Long Branch Saloon is that you have a wedding that can be kept intimate but not confined... allowing for everyone to really enjoy the day. From bow in arrows, to miniature golf... to the old style gambling saloon complete with poker tables and roulette... if you are not a dancer, there is sure to be something for the young at heart to enjoy.... and if nothing else, kick back and enjoy the creation Mr. Palmer has pulled together... it truly is magnificent!
The couple, Vanessa and Jordan, also put their special touches on the day. From vintage wear to custom cocktails and games, this wedding was definitely a fun one!

Love Birds
Posted by Shanti on Tue, 03/20/2012 - 11:49
I am so excited to be photographing Vanessa and Arturo's wedding in October. We first needed to capture their engagement portraits though, and Vanessa came in knowing exactly what she wanted! Her theme of the the wedding is love birds, her first date was at Beretta's Restaurant in the Mission part of San Francisco, and the style was to be garden like.... so we tackled this with a couple different locations to really bring in the feeling she wanted to get from this. From the restaurant, to Stowe Lake, with a little stop in between to find the street name that is his but soon will be their's it was a session full of fun and laughter and I really can't wait to get to know them even better.
